Progress Report - RAM optimization, 2nd project, and more


Hey lads!

So far I've fixed almost everything reported by people, so I aim to release an update on Thursday (late polish night, as always). Unless something game-breaking appears and won't be easy to fix.

Since Friday we are sick. My wife & kid have a small fever, but I'm fine, nothing major, only slight coughing and running nose, but all home errands fell on me, that's why v33a isn't released yet. Anyway, we are almost cured, and I'll do my best to release v33a on Thursday's late night.

After playing around v33 events and getting some feedback from players, I decided to unlock new Kevin & Rick events added recently to all players (Albert & Ben are untouched in v33a), so they are no longer gatekept behind having a boyfriend. My reasoning is that game needs more easy to access content, so further gatekeeping already gatekept content (Rick as a flatmate, and then as a boyfriend, too) is bad design and kinda a waste of my time on developing content for a very small % of people who will get to see it. So at the moment getting a boyfriend will give some small benefits, alter dialogues and make that character's content easier to trigger. For example, v33 event in which Kevin asks Jane to stay in her office could trigger only with 50% chance and if he was her boyfriend, but now in v33a it has 20-50% chance (based on many things) for everyone, and 100% chance instead if Kevin is Jane's boyfriend. Stuff like that.

I want to get back to smaller game updates & progress reports, but also to release them more often. Right now I announce big changes, get overwhelmed by work, delay updates, and then spend weeks on fixing huge load of bugs, while also releasing new content together with bug fixes, but it results in major updates and public releases every 2 months. Sometimes features are really huge, sometimes my artist is overwhelmed with other projects and we can't do it in time, but if possible I would like to go with monthly updates.

So if possible, I'm closing v33 with v33a update (unless game is still bugged and requires v33b), and starting to work on v34 that will unlock Hospital, expand pregnancy feature, add buyable traits mid-game, some new sex content, and probably more, like 2 female muscular body variants (fully optional) for training at the gym. On the sneakpeak you can already see the 2nd variant, but the first one will be less muscular (WIP).

And something many of you might like - I've found a way to optimize the RAM consumption, what will be the most beneficial on Android, since I'm also gonna upscale an art to that of PC level. The downside is that it will be a lot of manual, monotonous work with setting everything again, and it will cause some visual glitches. For now I'll only try female heads (for v34?), and if experiment is successful, I'll go slowly with the rest. It might sound weird, but head is like 30-50% of the total character art loaded into the memory, and easiest to try, since it's not animated (unlike torso & limbs). I don't know yet how big will this change be, but I'm sure it will be especially noticeable if your game crashes after playing for some time. Also, due to the nature of animations (and possibility of breaking them all), I might be not able to optimize rest of the body. We will see. Will let you know.

As the project is growing bigger, I got more patrons and so on - I'm gonna look for a new composer and writer still this month, coz as mentioned many times - I suck at writing. And as project gets more complex, writing can take really a lot of my time with each update. I won't be touching existing soundtrack, but I need tracks for new locations, while thinking about adding some bonus sound effects, like cars, birds in the streets, or buttons in the UI? Dunno. I'm also getting a new, much faster PC for working with the Unity in mind. My project is nowhere near in size of some big AAA games made in the same engine, but I'm already feeling its toll as I have to wait seconds for some simple things, making me waste really a lot of time in a longer run. You know I don't play any AAA games, as I stick to indie & oldschool games only, and games like RimWorld, ADOM or Fallout 2 can be run on toasters, so I won't see any difference in gaming, which is a real shame now that I think about it, coz as a kid I struggled with good PC, and I still remember playing TES: Oblivion, Gothic 3 or the first Witcher game on friend's PC :P

There's also something I've been thinking for some time and I've got a few hentai job offers last year. Basically, I'm thinking about starting work on the 2nd project. And before you take out your pitchforks and torches - no, I'm not abandoning Unaware in The City, and also no, I won't be doing most of the work in the new project, as I'm doing here. I won't start another suicidal huge one-man project, and I will be doing it only if I can fund it, so in other words - your money would go for the 2nd game and not for my private jumbo jet. I want to only design and supervise it, so I'm not gonna lie, but it will take a chunk of my time, but majority of it will stay on UiTC, as I'm the only person who can work on UiTC. So it's up to you, if you would like to see more porn games from me, as I have some projects in mind. Didn't think about monetizing it yet, but I won't do anything sketchy either, so it will be most likely a part of the Patreon's subscription and buyable from itch.io & Steam. it's a distant future, I didn't fully make my mind on it, and I'm not sure I'll ever be able to pull it off, as hiring programmer, artist & writer for the new project won't be cheap. I'm a workaholic and my dream always was to open my own game dev studio, while working on something totally different might be really refreshing and save me from burning out in the future. Burning out is a serious issue in the game dev, and I'm pretty sure that it's also inevitable with this project at some point, as I'm already working 5 years (with breaks) on it, and if you look at my current future plans, I need at least another 5 years to fulfill them all, while more plans will come along the way. But if I ever start burning out or feel like I need a break, I'll definitely let you know, as I always did, and I won't shadow-milk you with a dead project. You have my word, and you know I keep those.

To give you a rough idea of what those games would be - everything in 2D, as I hate 3D porn games. Male protagonist this time (sorry, my sanity wouldn't endure 2nd female character project :v). No loli or underaged content, so all characters will look at least 18+. Game less ambitious & smaller than Unaware in The City, as I want it as a side project, because my full focus will stay on UiTC. Art will be at least as good (or better) as in UiTC. All sex scenes animated & without black screens. Female characters view from different camera angles, so it won't be another side scroller. I might not be able to release monthly or big updates for this one. Game made in the newest Unity engine. I can copy & share some of the code between my games, making development a bit easier & faster. Anyway: - The first idea is about younger landlord Albert taking care of the whole building full of girls. Depending on my ambitions & funds to spare, it might be 2-3 girls or more, randomly generated or unique etc. Something similar to games like Beholder, Peeping Dorm Manager or Ntraholic, but my game won't be about NTR (although expect some), and I didn't decide how character movement around the world or sex scenes will look like. Whole gameplay will take place in the same building only. - The second idea is even more cliché, but easiest to make. Something like Imouto Monochrome/Fantasy or Runaway Girl. Due to some weird circumstances, you end up living with a girl, and your relationship changes based on your choices, so whether you expect something lovey-dovey or not is up to you. Since it's only one character, maybe I could even voice her? Modern times. Whole gameplay will take place in the same house mainly, but I might add some other events in the distant future, like beach etc. All gameplay - And the third idea (my favorite, but also the hardest to make) is about post-apo RPG, something like a mix of Neo Scavenger, 60 Seconds! SurVive! and Sheltered games, where you have to upgrade & protect your base, but also go out and scavenge, but with more emphasis on gameplay rather than sex content, so something still playable even if you got rid of all the sex stuff. Sex content would be about making girls stay in your shelter (so something similar to the 1st & 2nd idea) or random encounters while scavenging. Same stats & skills would be used for both non-sex & sex stuff. It's my fave idea, because it would be the most refreshing of those 2 above, and would let me finally work on something more "normal" rather than another pure porn game, greatly increasing my motivation and reducing chances of burning out, but it would require a lot of programming and gameplay designing when compared to those ideas above, so definitely not another solo project.

Anyway, wondering how much hate I'll get after posting it, so let me know what you think.
